Privacy Policy
GigHerald is built for independent workers who deserve to keep what they earn. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, why we collect it, and how it is protected. We believe in full transparency — there are no hidden data practices.

1. Data We Collect
Account & Profile Data
When you create an account or complete onboarding, we collect:
- Email address — used for authentication via Firebase Auth.
- Display name — shown within the app.
- Profile settings: work context (full-time / side hustle), gig types, day job hours, hourly rate target, weekly income goal, and tax rate preference — stored in your private cloud account on Google Firestore.
Financial & Earnings Data
GigHerald stores your financial activity data in your secure, private cloud account to enable tracking and AI coaching:
- Income transactions (amount, platform, date, category)
- Expense transactions (amount, category, vendor)
- Receipt scan images — processed immediately by AI and not permanently stored on our servers
- Earnings screenshot data — processed for text extraction and not stored on our servers
- Appointment records and computed earnings (see Section 4)
All financial data is stored in Google Firestore under your authenticated account. No other user or third party can read your financial data.
Appointment & Scheduling Data
When you create appointments, we store:
- Appointment title, service type, date, and time
- Rate configurations (hourly, flat fee, per-mile)
- Appointment status (Scheduled, In Progress, Completed, Cancelled)
- Estimated and actual mileage you enter manually
- Appointment notes
- Recurrence settings
Device & Technical Data
When you use the app, we may automatically collect device model, OS version, app version, and crash/stability data (via Firebase Crashlytics) to maintain app performance and fix issues.
2. How We Use Your Data
- To provide the Service — powering your schedule, earnings dashboard, client directory, and AI coach.
- To generate AI insights — your profile and financial data are sent to Google Gemini to produce personalized recommendations.
- To improve the app — crash reports and usage analytics help us fix bugs and improve performance.
- To authenticate you — Firebase Auth secures your account with email/password or Google sign-in.
- To support legacy advertising services — applicable only to legacy ad-supported versions; current accounts operate ad-free during trial and Pro tiers (see Section 7).
We do not sell your personal data to any third party, ever.
3. AI Processing — Google Gemini
GigHerald uses Google Gemini (via Google Cloud Functions) to power the AI financial coach and receipt/earnings scanning features. When you request AI assistance, relevant data from your profile and earnings history is securely transmitted to Google Gemini for processing.
Your data is processed in-transit and used solely to generate your response. We do not use your data to train AI models. Google's AI data handling is governed by Google's Cloud Services Privacy Notice.
4. Device Contacts & Client Data
GigHerald's client management features allow you to maintain private client directories (name, phone number, address, gate codes, service rates, and appointment history). This data is:
- Stored securely in your private Google Firestore account
- Accessible only by your authenticated account
- Never shared with other users, third parties, or used for advertising/marketing
- Used solely to display client details, organize your appointments, and facilitate one-tap calling and SMS drafting from within the app
GigHerald supports optional on-demand contact importing from your mobile device phonebook. When you tap to import a contact, the app accesses your device contacts solely to read the specific contact details you select. GigHerald does not background-harvest, upload, or sell your device address book.
5. SMS Reminder Drafts & Client Outreach
GigHerald provides 1-tap client communication, cancellation recovery drafts, and appointment reminders. This feature opens your device's native messaging app via a standard system URI (sms:) with a pre-written draft. GigHerald does not send SMS messages on your behalf, does not access your SMS inbox, and does not store or transmit private SMS message conversations to our servers.
You retain full control over whether to edit, send, or discard any message. The SMS is sent directly from your device's native messaging app, governed by your mobile carrier and plan.
6. GPS Shift & Mileage Tracking
GigHerald includes an active shift tracker that utilizes your device's GPS hardware (via foreground location services) to calculate driving distance, duration, and IRS standard mileage deductions ($0.67/mile for business use).
- Active Tracking Only: GPS coordinates are collected strictly while you have an active shift or drive session running. When tracking is stopped, location tracking is immediately halted.
- Data Protection: Location data is used strictly to compute distance deltas and route summaries stored under your private authenticated account. We do not sell, license, or monetize your location data to third parties.
- Manual Entry: Users can also log appointments and mileage manually at any time without enabling location permissions.
7. Advertising & Clean Experience Policy
GigHerald operates on a professional software model. All new accounts receive an immediate 14-day full-access trial without third-party advertisements, and active Pro accounts are 100% ad-free.
In older legacy builds of the application or optional promotional placements, advertising may be served through Google AdMob. Where active, AdMob may collect:
- Advertising ID (GAID on Android, IDFA on iOS)
- IP address and approximate location
- Device model, OS version, and screen size
- Ad interaction data (views, clicks)
This data is used strictly by Google to measure ad performance. You can manage or reset your advertising ID at any time in device settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads; iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking). Modern GigHerald trial and Pro users experience an ad-free interface.
8. In-App Purchases & Subscriptions
All in-app purchases — including GigHerald Pro subscriptions (Monthly at $19.99/mo and Annual at $119.00/yr) — are processed securely through the Google Play Store or Apple App Store via RevenueCat. We do not collect or store any payment card information on our servers. Prices are displayed in your local currency at checkout.
To manage or cancel your subscription: open your device store subscription settings (Google Play Store → Account → Subscriptions → GigHerald, or iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → GigHerald) and tap Cancel. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period.
Subscription receipt verification is handled via secure store billing APIs. We receive a cryptographic subscription status token (not financial account details) to verify your entitlement to Pro features.
9. Firebase Infrastructure
Our backend is powered by Google Firebase, including:
- Firebase Authentication — secure account creation and login
- Cloud Firestore — your private data store (us-central region)
- Firebase Crashlytics — crash reporting for app stability
- Firebase Cloud Functions — secure server-side AI request processing
Firebase's data handling is governed by Google's Firebase Privacy information. Your Firestore data is stored in the US (us-central1 region). Users outside the United States should be aware their data is stored in the United States.
10. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We share data only in the following limited circumstances:
- Google (Firebase, Gemini, AdMob) — as described in this policy, for service delivery, AI processing, and advertising.
- Legal requirements — if required by law, court order, or government authority.
- Business transfer — if GigHerald is acquired or merged, user data may be transferred as part of that transaction. You will be notified via email before your data is subject to a different privacy policy.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data.
11. Data Retention
We retain your data as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your data at any time by emailing admin@gigherald.com with the subject "Data Deletion Request." We will process your request within 30 days.
Note: some financial transaction data may be retained for up to 3 years for legal and accounting compliance purposes, even after account deletion.
12. Your Rights
All Users
- Access — Request a copy of your stored personal data.
- Deletion — Request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data.
- Correction — Update your profile data at any time within the app.
European Users (GDPR)
If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have additional rights including data portability and the right to object to processing. Legal basis for processing: contractual necessity (to provide the Service) and legitimate interests (app stability and improvement). Contact: admin@gigherald.com
U.S. State Privacy Rights (Texas, California, Virginia, etc.)
Depending on your U.S. state of residence — including under the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act (TDPSA) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) — you have the right to confirm whether we process your data, access it, correct inaccuracies, obtain a portable copy, and request its deletion. You also have the right to opt out of processing for targeted advertising.
To exercise any of these rights, contact: admin@gigherald.com
13. Children's Privacy (18+ Policy)
In compliance with the Texas Securing Children Online through Parental Empowerment (SCOPE) Act and applicable federal law, GigHerald is strictly restricted to users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not permit users under 18 and do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us immediately at admin@gigherald.com for deletion.
14. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:
- All data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS
- Firebase Authentication enforces secure token-based sessions
- Firestore Security Rules restrict data access to the authenticated owner only
- No payment card data is collected or stored by GigHerald
- AI requests are processed server-side via Firebase Cloud Functions — no API keys are exposed on-device
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via in-app notification or email. The "Effective Date" at the top of this page reflects the most recent update.
